Several Weeks ago, I attended the Arden Theatre Company's production of Romeo and Juliet. I enjoy my fair share of Shakespearian plays, but this is not one of them. I guess it's because I'm sort of an asshole, but Romeo and Juliet are whiny teens to me. I know I'm missing out on all the tragic romantic hero stuff because I this attitude, but I can accept that. I like my Shakespeare to have more secrets, plotting, and general mayhem. As it happen though, 50 theatre productions in one year is a pretty intense goal, so I see what I can, while never paying more than $20. The Arden is a very established theatre. In general, their shows have high production values, paired with experienced theatre artists. This show was no different in that respect. It was also, still Romeo and Juliet though. So the lighting was beautiful, the fights were action packed and entertaining, and Mercutio rocked, but it was still a couple of teens crying about love for 2-3 hours. Certainly was not my favorite show of the year, but worth giving it a shot.
Next Up, The Blue Monster, mwahaha.
